Highlights• A scale of Perceived Economic Inequality in Everyday Life (PEIEL) is presented.• The scale is unidimensional and shows valid and reliable psychometric properties.• PEIEL predicted tolerance of economic inequality over and above wage gap estimates.• PEIEL had an impact on the tolerance towards inequality of right-wing individuals.
