Fluorinated diethyl and dipropyl halonium salts were synthesized via fluoroalkylation of bromofluoro and iodofluoro alkanes. Oxidation of CHCl(CH 3 )(CF 3 ) yielded a highly reactive asymmetric chloronium species, capable of isobutane activation.
