The Effect of Generative Artificial Intelligence on College Students’ spoken English

The generative artificial intelligence(AI) effect on college students’ spoken English is one of the most concerning social hot topics today. Part of the researchers’ findings is that many aspects of spoken English learning among college students have been impacted by generative artificial intelligence. However, there is still a lack of sorting and explaining on the specific aspects that have an impact. Therefore, this research collects relevant materials and obtains the necessary information. Then, a comprehensive study will be explored on the multidimensional effects of generative AI on college students' spoken English. Through this study, the main conclusions are as follows: Firstly, in terms of language proficiency, AI can improve the accuracy of pronunciation and grammar, strengthen spoken fluency, and personalize learning. However, there are also issues at the same time like inaccurate speech recognition. Second, in terms of learning behavior, generative AI contributes to enhancing their engagement, and stimulating learning interest. Thirdly, in terms of comprehensive application, generative AI can realize multidimensional improvement of learning motivation, self-directed learning ability, and learning efficiency. However, students overuse generative AI easily lose their self-directed learning ability. Finally, basing on the above conclusion, there are three suggestions were proposed.
