New laser crystals were prepared from potassium-rare-earth tungstates KY(WO 4 ) 2 and KGd(WO 4 ) 2 activated with Pr 3+ ions. Flashlamp pumping at room temperature resulted in low-threshold pulsed and quasi-cw generation of stimulated radiation in the 'neodymium' range of wavelengths (1.06–1.07 μm, 1 D 2 → 3 F 4 lasing channel).
