Performance optimization of cutting devices for Caragana Korshinskii Kom.: a multiscale analysis of sliding cutting angles

Caragana Korshinskii Kom. branch (CKB) is an important woody resource. However, due to its unique structural composition, CKB exhibits high toughness and hardness, leading to excessive cutting energy consumption caused by its high lignin content during the processing and fragmentation process. This study investigates the cutting fracture mechanisms of CKB from a multi-scale perspective and systematically analyzes the relationships between cutting parameters and the performance of cutting devices. A series of cutting experiments were conducted using a custom-designed cutting test apparatus. By integrating single-factor experiments with the central composite design (CCD) method, a regression model was established with ultimate shear stress and specific cutting energy as evaluation metrics. The experimental results indicate that under optimized cutting conditions – sliding cutting angle of 25°, feeding angle of 40°, and tilting angle of 22° – the average cutting torque was reduced by 20% (4.68 N m), while energy consumption per unit output decreased by 15%. These findings provide a direct solution for the low-energy processing of high-lignin biomass materials.
