Growth paths for cross-border transformation of enterprises: mechanism analysis of business model design

Cross-border transformation is an important path for enterprises to achieve sustainable development. Business model design is an important action for enterprises to help cross-border transformation and growth by reshaping the value creation and value capture mechanism. This study selects a typical successful case of cross-border transformation in China and adopts a longitudinal case study approach to explore the internal mechanism of its business model design. The study found that (1) The cross-border transformation of enterprises has undergone the development period of the traditional manufacturing industry, the exploration period of cross-border transformation, and the maturity period of an integrated enterprise. Business model design shows differentiation at various stages; (2) Sensemaking is the starting point of enterprise business model design. Enterprise managers usually scan the complex environment, make perceptions and judgments, form perceptions, and then iterate the strategic layout of the enterprise. (3) Business model design is a strategic layout based on the sensemaking and the capture of competitive advantages around the future development of the enterprise. These research conclusions enrich the theoretical research on the sustainable development of enterprises and are of great significance in guiding the practice of enterprises.
