Integrated Pre-Amplified SC-PON Receiver for 200G Very High Speed PON

In this work, we present the design and experimental validation of an integrated C-band 200G pre-amplified self-coherent receiver for passive optical networks (PON), deployed at the optical network units (ONUs). The proposed receiver architecture enables 200-Gb/s/λ downstream transmission. A III V based semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is hybrid integrated with the designed self-coherent receiver through packaging. To verify the feasibility of the proposed architecture, we conduct a proof-of-concept experiment using the integrated SC-PON receiver. Various modulation formats — including QPSK, 8-PSK, and 16-QAM — are evaluated at a symbol rate of 50-GBaud, achieving data rates of 100-Gb/s, 150-Gb/s, and 200- Gb/s, respectively, over 20 km of single-mode fiber (SMF). Under a soft-decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) threshold of 2x10-2 (15% overhead), we achieve power budget margins of 35.5 dB, 30 dB, and 27 dB, respectively. The system demonstrates sufficient budget to support at least 32 ONU in a 200G Very High Speed PON (VHSP) configuration, highlighting its potential for future high-capacity access networks.
