Historical contributions of the medical profession to physics

About a dozen scientists who have made important contributions in the history of physics are identified as physicians or as having a scientific education that included medical school. Their relationship to the medical profession and their contributions to physics are briefly summarized. Both the strengths and weaknesses of a background in medicine are considered in relation to research and discovery in physics.
