Educational Technology in Language Assessment: Enhancing Writing Assessment Literacy Through the Pigai AES System

This study aims to enhance Chinese college-level English as foreign language learners’ writing assessment literacy by integrating a popular automated evaluation system named pigai in language teaching. The study invited 119 college students to participate in classroom input activities of writing marking criteria analysis, writing practice activities on pigai, and feedback tasks for the whole process. The findings show that language learners’ assessment literacy could be enhanced with suitable integration of AES systems. In addition, under suitable guidance, language learners were able to critically evaluate the scores and effectively utilize the feedback reports from AES systems. The findings also imply the need of more detailed research into the enhancement of language assessment literacy and development of reliable AES systems.
