L'A. examine un changement de son toujours en evolution dans l'ouest des Etats Unis. Ce changement de son implique les orthographes , et , en d'autres termes : le son /ae/ precedant les velaires voisees. L'analyse acoustique du discours de locuteurs natifs enregistres lors d'entretiens en face-a-face permet a l'A. de mettre en evidence trois etapes de changement pour ce son dans la communaute linguistique consideree
