摘要与影响
This study investigates the counterintuitive persistence of visitor satisfaction despite severe infrastructure deficiencies in time-compressed, high-density rural festivals. Deconstructing conventional service quality theories that assume linear relationships between physical comfort and satisfaction, it explores the experiential paradox and the mechanisms managing this tension. Adopting an instrumental case study design, data were collected by a research team via rapid ethnographic assessment (REA) during the Eşme Quince Festival (Turkey) to capture immediate, in-situ affective responses within a 12-h high-density window. Semi-structured interviews with 73 participants were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Findings reveal a tension matrix demonstrating that physical constraints are cognitively reframed as festival vibrancy through a social buffer mechanism. This study identifies an instantaneous social burst where emotional solidarity absorbs negative physical externalities. Crucially, the research illustrates a shift in visitor roles from passive consumers to active supporters who develop a strong sense of place attachment and advocate for the destination’s sustainability. The study culminates in a rural festival sustainability model illustrating how social capital outweighs logistical fragility, providing a strategic framework for managing high-density events in resource-constrained rural destinations.
