摘要与影响
The disposal of agricultural waste is a pressing environmental concern due to its high nutrient content, which, if mismanaged, can lead to pollution and soil degradation. Mushroom cultivation offers a sustainable and innovative approach to recycling agricultural waste by utilizing its organic content to produce nutrient-rich food. This chapter highlights the significance of mushrooms as a valuable agricultural product, addressing their potential to transform agricultural waste into a resource for food production. The aim of this work is to explore the role of agricultural waste in mushroom cultivation, emphasizing its importance in nutrient recycling, sustainable farming, and socioeconomic upliftment, particularly in rural communities. The findings presented in this chapter illustrate how specific agricultural waste combinations can be optimized to achieve high mushroom yields at a cost-effective rate. Additionally, mushroom cultivation not only helps manage agricultural waste within acceptable nutrient levels but also provides a solution to food scarcity and improves environmental sustainability. However, the chapter also discusses challenges and limitations, such as the need for standardized substrate preparation methods, regional variability in agricultural waste availability, and scalability of mushroom farming in diverse socioeconomic contexts. Mushroom cultivation emerges as a promising bioconversion technique that addresses multiple global challenges, including waste management, food insecurity, and environmental pollution. Future research should optimize agricultural waste substrates, develop cost-effective and scalable cultivation technologies, and promote awareness to enhance adoption among rural populations. A sustainable and inclusive food system can be achieved by advancing microbial technology for mushroom cultivation.
