摘要与影响
Artificial organ development, patient-specific part fabrication, and pharmaceutical product innovations are constantly witnessing upgrades in new product development and drug delivery systems in the field of biomedical industries. Among conventional manufacturing methods, 3D Printing has evolved over the past two decades, owing to its ease in manufacturing complex geometry and freeform structures with high accuracy and reproducibility. It has several applications in the field of biomedical, such as customized prostate printing, artificial organ printing, disease modeling, tissue regeneration, and drug delivery device fabrication. Though the advancement of 3D Printing in biomedical engineering has reached an established stage, there are still scopes in biomaterial printing where greater effort and attempts are needed to innovate efficient and improved biomedical products using 3D Printing. High-quality functional organ development for a solution to donor unavailability, biomaterial development suitable for 3D Printing, and functional part development are the key areas that need to be investigated. The objective of this chapter is to investigate various 3D Printing methods in biomedical engineering, the suitability of biomaterials to different 3D Printing methods, their applications, and the printing of biomaterials using novel 3D Printing methods.
