摘要与影响
Population growth, urban housing projects, and the hospitality industry have led to a shortage of drinkable water, potentially raising concerns about the future. Most of these activities and development processes generate a substantial amount of wastewater. Developing cost-effective and efficient wastewater treatment techniques is crucial. Wastewater primarily comes from urban areas and hospitality businesses, with industries as secondary contributors. Treating wastewater using physical and chemical processes incurs significant expenses. Furthermore, these methods produce sludge that requires separate treatment, which can be costly and time-consuming. Operating and maintaining physical and chemical processes for wastewater treatment necessitates labor deployment. Workers need advanced training and expertise to ensure safe handling of sludge and mitigate potential risks. In this scenario, the use of microorganisms for waste treatment is both cost-effective and environmentally benign. On-site treatment is readily achievable and does not necessitate the transfer of garbage to external facilities. Microbe-treated wastewater can be safely used for agricultural purposes, and it is feasible to eradicate most detrimental pollutants from the water. Microorganisms play a vital role in the decomposition of contaminants and transform them into nontoxic substances. The substances encompass azo dyes, heavy metals, plastics, and organic substances such as pharmaceutical and personal care products. Furthermore, microbial treatment can be customized to specifically address the pollutants found in the wastewater, rendering it a flexible and effective method for water treatment. Specific microorganisms have the capacity to transform dyes, organochlorines, and some pesticides into compounds that are not harmful. Therefore, microbial treatment is an ecologically sound and economically efficient approach for wastewater treatment, providing an environmentally friendly option compared to the conventional treatment methods. Using microorganisms, we can effectively purify water sources and preserve the ecosystem for future generations.
