摘要与影响
The advent of Generation IV nuclear power plants is expected to revolutionize base-load power generation globally between 2030 and 2050. These advanced nuclear systems require materials capable of withstanding extreme operational conditions, thereby ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainability. A key challenge in this sector is the degradation of structural components due to corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and neutron-induced embrittlement. To address these concerns, innovative coating technologies are imperative. This chapter explores the technological advancements in coatings for nuclear industry applications, with a focus on carbon-based components such as graphite and C/C composites. Silicon carbide (SiC) has emerged as a promising coating material due to its exceptional oxidation resistance and irradiation stability. The chapter reviews cutting-edge coating techniques, including hybrid chemical vapor deposition and nano-spraying methods, which enable the development of high-purity, nanostructured coatings with precise atomic-scale control. Additionally, it discusses the scalability of these coating techniques from the micro to macro levels, their application in protecting large-scale nuclear components, and the challenges associated with coating complex geometries. This chapter provides insights into the future of coatings in the nuclear industry and their role in enhancing the longevity and safety of next-generation nuclear energy systems.
