摘要与影响
The human brain is made up of approximately one hundred billion neurons, an equal number of support cells ( Herculano-Houzel, 2014 ), and hundreds of trillions of connections ( Murre & Sturdy, 1995 ); scientists have described the brain as the most complex object in the universe ( Ackerman, 1992 ). The brain gives rise to our unique human intelligence, providing the ability to reason, solve problems, and learn ( Snyderman & Rothman, 1987 ). Human intelligence supports planning, abstract thinking, comprehension of complex ideas, rapid learning, and experiential learning ( Gottfredson, 1997 ). The application of shared human intelligence to improve the human condition has given rise to language, art, farming, mechanization, mass production, computation, vaccines, telecommunications, air and space travel, and attempts to self-replicate through artificial intelligence (AI) – the field of building intelligent machines, including intelligent computer programs ( McCarthy, 2004 ).
