This paper introduces some applications of interactive animation and remote control technique in the on-line courses “Fundamental of Mechanical Manufacturing” and “Mechanical Engineering” which were jointly developed by Industrial Training Center, South China University of Technology (SCUT) and the Industrial Centre, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Many interactive animations were created to show the working principle of complicated machines and manufacturing processes. Some virtual panorama visits were arranged for students by means of virtual panorama photos. More than 5 remote control experiments between SCUT and PolyU were carried out during 2001 and 2002.
