In recent years, box coolers have become somewhat widespread in the power plants of small and medium-displacement vessels.However, the issues of their practical use in the cooling systems of ship gas turbine units, as well as the issues of design taking into account the features of the equipment serving the gas turbine unit, remain relevant.The purpose of the work is to analyze the features of the thermal calculation of box coolers for double-circuit cooling systems of ship gas turbine units.The working processes in box coolers were chosen as the object of the study.The subject of the study is the thermal characteristics of these heat exchangers.A mathematical model of a heat exchange device of the "box-cooler" type has been developed.The features of the thermal design calculation of these devices for doublecircuit cooling systems of ship gas turbine plants have been considered.The influence of the input thermal load on the characteristics of box coolers was analyzed for the first time; the dependence of qualitative and quantitative heat transfer indicators on it was established.Taking into account the limiting influence on the transfer of heat from the outer surface of the pipes to the sea water, the influence of the height of the pipe bundle and the sea water temperature on this factor was considered in detail.It was determined that the increase in the latter leads not only to a deterioration in heat transfer, but also to a simultaneous decrease in the average temperature head in the heat exchanger.The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the possibility of using the developed mathematical model of the heat exchanger both for its design and for verification analysis of operation in different modes.This can become the basis for further research related to the analysis of the influence of operational factors, in particular environmental factors, on the operation and thermal characteristics of the heat exchangers under study.
