ENHANCING TOURISM INDUSTRY PERFORMANCE IN HAINAN: PATHWAYS ANALYSIS AND IMPLICATIONS OF CHINESE EXPERIENCE FOR CENTRAL ASIAN COUNTRIES' TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

As a major tourism province, Hainan's tourism industry has demonstrated suboptimal performance. This paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of the current status of Hainan's tourism sector, identifying three primary challenges: insufficient integration of tourism resources, inadequate development of high-value-added tourism products, and systemic deficiencies in supporting infrastructure. To address these issues, we propose a three-dimensional optimization strategy encompassing spatial layout reorganization, industrial chain extension, and service quality enhancement. Specifically, recommendations include establishing a cross-regional tourism collaboration mechanism, cultivating niche tourism formats such as marine wellness and eco-tourism, and implementing smart tourism management systems through digital transformation. The research findings provide actionable insights for policymakers to scientifically reposition the tourism industry's developmental trajectory, with practical significance in three dimensions: facilitating paradigm shifts in tourism development philosophy, promoting regional tourism integration within the Pan-South China Sea economic circle, and accelerating the transformation of tourism growth patterns from scale expansion to quality-driven development. This study contributes to both theoretical frameworks of tourism economics and practical decision-making processes for coastal tourism destinations.
