COMMUNICATIVE AND PRAGMATIC FEATURES OF THE RESIGNATION SPEECH IN MODERN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE POLITICAL DISCOURSE (ON THE EXAMPLE OF B. JOHNSON’S SPEECH)

The article deals with the communicative and pragmatic features ofthe resignation speech in modern English political discourse. The authors make anattempt to identify the verbal tools for implementing the communicative “strategyto increase”, based on the speech of the former Prime Minister of Great Britain B.Johnson. The relevance of the research topic is determined by the increased interestin political discourse, especially in terms of its communicative and pragmaticpotential. In the course of the study, the authors identified the tactics used by thepolitician in his resignation speech - “analysis-plus”, “presentations”, “appealsto a feeling of regret”, “impersonal accusation”, “promise” and “compliment”,as well as such specific lexical syntactic tools to achieve the maximum pragmaticeffect, such as lexical and syntactic repetitions, the use of expressive vocabularywith a positive negative connotation, parcellation, hyperbole, deixis of personalpronouns “we” and “I”, etc.
