摘要与影响
Many vodcast speakers often use code-switching. Based on this phenomenon, the researcher became interested in conducting a study on code-switching in vodcasts. This study examined the phenomenon of code-switching in bilingual conversations, focusing on the YouTube vodcast Catatan Najwa x Agnez Mo. Using Poplack’s framework, the research identified the types of code-switching, including intra-sentential, inter-sentential, and tag-switching. Additionally, Hoffman’s theory was applied to analyze the reasons for code-switching. This study employed a discourse analysis approach. Data were collected by transcribing and analyzing the first 30 minutes of the vodcast. The findings revealed that intra-sentential switching (70%) was the most frequently used type, followed by inter-sentential switching (21%) and tag-switching (9%). The primary motivation for code-switching was clarification (32%), highlighting the speakers' effort to ensure their message was understood by a diverse audience. The results demonstrated how code-switching was used in real communication, reflecting how bilinguals spoke in everyday life. This study contributed to sociolinguistics, media communication, and bilingual discourse analysis, particularly in understanding language use on digital platforms like YouTube. Future research should explore code-switching in different contexts, such as education, business, and political discourse, to further examine its role in multilingual communication.
