A Model for the Systematic Design of Instruction

It is impor tan t to note that by the mid-1970s, p rog rammed instruction \nhad been replaced by less structured forms of self-instructional materials that were often referred to as LAPs (learning activity packages). The title \nof the course was changed to, "Introduction to the Systematic Design of \nInstruction," and the Dick and Carey textbook replaced a set of readings \nthat had been used for a n u m b e r of years. The model incorporates the \nideas and procedures that were described in those articles and presents a \nconsistent set of terminology. The model and the text were both in tended \nto be used by the novice who was learning how to create instructional \nmaterials that would result in effective learning.
