摘要与影响
We have travelled a long way in this text, traversing many borders and boundaries – institutional, geographical, disciplinary, textual – in order to examine some of the major trends reshaping the field of adult education into what I have suggested from a United Kingdom location may be constructed as a moorland of lifelong learning. In this sense, the text attempts to illustrate reflexively the forms of writing and analysis I am suggesting may be necessary to be able to engage with and participate in the processes governing changes in this terrain in the contemporary period. This is not to say that any one person will occupy all the possible locations available to them on this moorland. While positioning oneself and being positioned in many discourses may be a feature of the times, many discourses are not all discourses and certain discourses have more powerful effects than others. A sense, even if an ambivalent sense, of location is therefore part of the meaning inscribed in this text and the readings and rereadings to which it will be subject.
