India’s maritime strategy

Since independence, the Indian Navy has expanded considerably and transformed into a modern and professional force counted amongst the leading navies of the world. In pace with naval developments, the Indian strategic thinking has also evolved into a clear national vision. This chapter traces the genesis of the Indian Navy and evolution of India’s maritime strategy. It also examines the extant maritime strategy including the novel concept of leveraging maritime security cooperation as a means to further national security objectives.
