The Fictions of Racialized Identities

While many U. S. American citizens, scholars, and jurists espouse their belief that the nations should be ideally "color-blind," we are just beginning to realize that the complexities of race, class, and gender constructions militate against finding any quick fix legal solutions to culturally embedded conundrums. In place of classical liberal notions of neutrality and color blindness, we now hear the clarion call of many critics who claim that radical social change can only come from "race consciousness" and a recognition of the institutional nature of racism.
