Translation History

The first section of this chapter goes through the initial stages of a research project on translation history, from the goal of the exercise and the importance of a guiding research question to primary data gathering and organising the material into a meaningful whole. The two following sections discuss questions of periodisation and geographical spread as well as various ways of understanding the dynamics of change. The final section concerns historical discourses about translation, including the risks associated with the presentation of these discourses in anthologies .
