FOSTERING TEAM CREATIVITY: PERSPECTIVE TAKING AS KEY TO UNLOCKING DIVERSITY'S POTENTIAL.

The article explores the conditions under which team creativity benefits from team members' diverse perspectives. Perspective is identified as a contingency factor in explaining when teams can capitalize upon their diversity. Results show that perspective taking moderates the impact of diversity on group creativity and that this effect is partially mediated by reframing, which is identified as a vital process that stimulates creativity within work groups. The interplay of diversity and perspective is likewise shown to take a key antecedent of reframing and group creativity. The usefulness of perspective taking in bringing about the effects of diversity across various tasks requiring cognitive flexibility is also discussed.
