摘要与影响
This research embarks on a comprehensive examination of disruptions inherent within immigrant families, with a particular emphasis on the experiences of women. At the heart of our investigation lies the concept of the "acculturative gap," a term coined to encapsulate the challenges stemming from cultural shock and involvement. Drawing inspiration from Virginia Satir's concept of psychological incongruence, we endeavor to illuminate the intricate interplay of language, values, and practices that contribute to the estrangement between immigrant mothers and daughters. Through a multifaceted analysis of this acculturative gap, our aim is to unravel the underlying reasons for the palpable alienation experienced by daughters towards their mothers. By synthesizing theoretical frameworks with empirical insights, this study seeks to offer a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics at play within these relationships. Furthermore, we employ Amy Tan's seminal novel, "The Joy Luck Club," as our primary source, utilizing its narrative techniques as a lens through which to highlight and contextualize these themes within the realm of immigrant literature. Adopting a humanistic approach, our research endeavors not only to elucidate the intricacies of immigrant mother-daughter relationships but also to foster empathy and cultural understanding within broader societal discourse, thereby promoting inclusivity and mutual respect.
